Basketball - A Tool for Christ

Have you noticed that every before and after games, players huddle up and form a circle while holding their hands up high with heads down? Their praying. Asking God for guidance and safety. Why? Faith. Faith is what drives them throughout the game. As the term goes, "Salig Lang," which means Trust in the Lord and just leave it to him.

There are players in different places who set up pick up games for other players and in turn, make it a tool to spread the holy word. They are such good examples for all of us. I went to these sessions and indeed it enlightened me, as we felt the presence of the Lord around us. I could see that the players are finding their way to the Lord.

Like in Davao City, there's an organization there, CCF Sports Ministry, or the Christ Commission Fellowship Sports Ministry, who does the same. Their Basketball Sessions are held at Woodridge, Ma-a, Davao City. In the middle of the games, there will be a Devotion to be held by the hosts of the sessions. In this Devotion, they will share a Bible Scripture that is related to basketball. From friendship, sportsmanship, teamwork and all the things related to the sport. The main message that is relayed to us is that WE ARE PLAYING FOR THE LORD.

Basketball Session at Tulip Drive, Davao City

Another group who also did basketball sessions for the Lord is led by Brother Lorenzo Ano-os. (We will discuss further about his history and how he became closer to the Lord in our later discussions.) This group is currently having their sessions at Tulip Drive, Davao City. Everyone is free to join. This session is filled with top class players from all over city. So, their goal is also to spread the word to basketball players in the city and outside. They also relay the message that WE ARE PLAYING FOR THE LORD.

There are other groups who are also conducting these sessions. But, they have the same message to relay to all of us: WE ARE PLAYING FOR THE LORD. Different religious brothers are sharing their experiences in how Gods' presence changed their lives. They saying, "Salig Lang!" Indeed, an inspiration for all of us. As i joined their sessions, while having our bible sharing, i believe we are all experiencing God in our midst. Truly beautiful.

So, to all the basketball players out there, i invite you to join sessions like these, you will experience what i am telling you, The presence of the Lord.

However, there are other who take it to another level. They call it PANALAY . What is PANALAY ? It is a betting game. Players bet money or any monetary item with a game of Basektball. Yup! unike Poker and all the betting games, this requires skills, teamwork and all hardwork . Yes. This is some serious SHIzzzzT . Some players die or get hurt because of the level of play being displayed. Andrew Nidea with the PBA Sharp Shooter, Dondon Hontiveros I interviewed one of the k...

What Coaches want to consider about training a player.

Okay. If you're a Coach, Trainer, or just a Regular player who wants to improve in the game of basketball, you have to consider these things: Acceptance, Training and Humility. Let's first start with Acceptance . Let's learn to accept that there is no perfect player and we are all destined to improve. So, don't go yapping around telling everyone that you're a "Complete" player because you're not. I repeat, YOU ARE NOT. Just around the corner, There's always someone BETTER than you. Accept the fact that we are all students of the game and the game is our teacher. Next, Training. What training do you need? Take note: NEED . Not, WANT. If you need strength because your too weak, then do strength training. If you're slow, then do speed drills. There are various training regimens that you can take to increase your level of play. But, ofcourse, you have to gain playing experience and put the training to play - that is your gauge. In our ...
